Features
- Rolls - The rolls are either 8" diameter by 20" long or 9" diameter by 24" long on the grinding surface. The inside of the roll is machined concentric to the roll surface to insure uniform cooling and material transfer. Standard rolls are constructed for hardened steel (stainless steel rolls are an option). Rolls can also be ceramic coated, tungsten carbide coated, etc...
- Cooling - All three rolls are water cooled with individual valves to control the flow of water. Thermometers installed in the Waterbox to measure outlet water temperature is an option. Digital temperature readouts mounted on the control panel is another option, as is an automatic temperature control system.
- Adjustments - The mill has four (4) point adjustment which can be either manual roll set, or electrohydraulic roll set. The electrohydraulic system offers the "quick release" feature which allows the rolls to be opened and closed, without resetting the roll pressure knobs. This means that the rolls can be opened for cleaning and then closed again, duplicating the previous setting. A mechanical gapping system is an option.
- Safety Feature - This mill is equipped with a safety system that is designed to "fail" if any foreign object passes through the rolls. This minimizes damage to the rolls and other component parts of the mill. The manual roll set units have shear pins. The electrohydraulic system has an overpressure dump system.
- Frame - The mill frame, shoulders and side covers are constructed from stainless steel. This design makes for an excellent appearance and very easy cleanup. The mill sits on a steel base, which is designed to be forkliftable. The height of this base can be specified from 4" to 16".
- Apron - The apron is constructed of stainless steel. Positive tension of the knife against the take off roll is maintained by a two point hydraulic system. The knife pressure is easily adjusted using the hydraulic system, so that repeatability from batch to batch is insured. The apron system also includes a device which insures that the knife comes slightly away from the apron roll whenever knife pressure is not required. The knife is held into the apron blade holder via a backing plate, allowing for very easy knife removal and slot cleanup. The standard knife is constructed of spring steel with a single bevel.
- Endplates - This mill can be supplied with two types of endplate systems. The first system utilizes endplates that ride on the roll journals, allowing for "mixing" on the rear two rolls. The second system utilizes endplates that ride on the "flat of the roll", & they are adjustable to control the spread of material across the grinding surface of the rolls. In both systems, the endplates are easily removed for cleanup. Endplates are constructed of bronze with various plastic materials as an option.
- Gears - The machine is supplied with spiral cut cast iron gears and steel pinions. This gear train has been designed for smooth and quiet operation.
- Bearings - The mill has anti-friction roller bearings fitted in self-aligning roll boxes. These boxes are designed to prevent the entrance of foreign matter.
- Motor & Drive - The standard motor supplied with the mill is a single speed TEFC motor (7.5HP on 8"x20" mills and 1OHP on 9"x24" mills). Prewire options include varispeed, braking for safety, explosion proof electrics, etc... The power is transmitted to the rolls via a timing belt drive.
