Details

1-Korsch PH100 Research Tablet Press. The PH100 is a high precision rotary tablet press designed specifically for product development, optimization, and the production of small volume clinical supplies. The PH100 features a rigid design, with an emphasis on minimizing set-up, clean up, and changeover time. The PH100 is fully instrumented to permit data collection and analysis of compression and ejection forces. The machine is equipped for standard TSM B tooling. The machine is equipped with a standard open gravity feeder, and a variable speed power feeder. The gravity feeder and the power feeder are easily interchanged on a stationary support table which maintains a fixed clearance with the die table. The PH100 offers calibrated gauges for filling depth, tablet thickness, and press speed to permit machine settings to be documented, and readily reproduced.

MACHINE SPECIFICATIONS:

STANDARD EQUIPMENT:
The KORSCH PH100 is provided with the following standard equipment:

3-Station, TSM B Turret
Variable Speed Power Feeder
Gravity Feeder
Stainless Steel Product Hopper
Suction Nozzle for Dust Extraction
Hydraulic Overload System
Main Compression Force Instrumentation
Ejection Force Instrumentation

MACHINE SAFETY:
The PH100 is equipped with safety interlocks which prevent direct access to the turret while the machine is in operation. Electrical interlocks are installed on the left and right access doors which must be in position to permit the machine to run. In addition to these door interlocks, the handwheel which permits manual machine rotation is also provided with an interlock which prevents machine operation. This insures that the machine cannot be started while the manual handwheel is in position.

STANDARD GRAVITY AND FORCE FEED SYSTEMS:
The PH100 is equipped with a gravity feeder and a 2-paddle force feed system. The force feeder is provided with a variable speed drive, to permit optimization of product flow with die table speed. Both feeding systems are mounted on a fixed table which is not removed during normal machine changeover. The clearance between the feeders and the die table is therefore maintained, and it is not necessary to re-position the height of the feed frame system prior to each run. The force feeder and gravity feeder are easily interchanged on the same mounting table. In order to facilitate the transfer between the feeding systems, a separate transition piece is provided for the product hopper for each of the feeding systems.

MACHINE INSTRUMENTATION (INCLUDED):
The PH100 is instrumented to permit the measurement of compression force and ejection force. The following points of instrumentation are included:

Upper Main Compression Force
Ejection Force

UPPER MAIN COMPRESSION FORCE:
Strain gauges are mounted to the top pressure roller shaft to measure the upper punch press force. The top pressure roller runs on 4 needle bearings (2 axial and 2 radial bearings), so that the influence of the transverse forces is reduced to a minimum. The new design of the top pressure roller bearings insures that the shaft is only subjected to bending loads. The shaft is equipped with 4 wire strain gauges (350 Ohm) in a full bridge circuit and the equipment is temperature compensated. Application of the wire strain gauges is by a special bonding method at 160 degrees Celsius and they are given a highly protective coating. The direct mounting of the measurement point behind the pressure roller insures that all the equipment is almost completely stable under temperature changes, and thermal influences resulting from external factors or machine operation have virtually no effect on the measurement, even after long periods of operation.

EJECTION FORCE:
The ejection force is measured by a specially designed segmented ejection cam, which is mounted immediately following the compression roller. This cam has been designed to insure that the individual ejection force from each punch may be accurately measured, without disturbances from other punches, even at high speeds. A 4-wire strain gauge is utilized in a solid bridge circuit and the equipment is temperature compensated. The technical design of the cam insures that the relative position of the ejection cam and the lower compression roller is maintained, to insure accurate measurements at all values of tablet thickness. The instrumented portion of the ejection cam is not removed during normal cleaning and press change over - and is, therefore, protected during normal operation.
